Creating home Practice Space

Image
Among the many things I love about yoga is that it can be practiced anywhere. It can be practiced independently at the comfort of you home, out in nature or in a traditional yoga studio with with yogis.   While I enjoy practicing in a studio with others, my current schedule doesn't allow me the ability to drop in a class anytime I want, particularly the classes I do want to attend. But also, yoga can be very expansive let's be honest, and going t o a studio everyday can be highly costly, which is something a lot of us can't afford. So, home practice provides the opportunity to continue doing what you love without going completely broke. Home practice can be very rewarding and a beautiful opportunity for further developing your practice; after all as Pattabhi Jois said "Yoga is 99%, 1% theory." While home practice can be terrifying and foreign at first it can be very liberating, there is great potential for freedom in one's journey. While it can be ch...

New Season new beginning new adventures

Image
At any given moment you have the power to say this is not how the story is going to end, or how the story is going to continue. A new day, month or season seems like another ordinary day, but that's not true. A new day or even a month has many unlock potential. It is a time to decide whether you want things to continue as they are, or to stop narrating the story, and say I am going to end here or change how this narrative will be read in the future. It’s easy to feel like you are not in control of things, but you’d be surprise by how much you are in control, each us constructs and lives a narrative wrote the British Neurologist Oliver Sacks, this narrative is us. The self is constantly or perpetually written story and in the end we become the autobiographical narrative by which we tell about our lives (Jerome Bruner).   As humans we are powerful in that sense, we have control over our lives and how the narrative about us is told, we can deny it but ultimately it is us who ...

How many of these books have you read?

Image
So, I had a little conversation today with a friend regarding how many books I have on my shelf and it got me thinking about actually counting how many books I actually have. After counting the books  I was a little disappointed to find out that I have only 210 books on my personal library with about 10 or 20 that I have not finished reading or started to read.  But, after feeling guilty and a little disappointed at my poor book shift, I remember reading Nessim Nicholas Talab book The Black Swan and he had a really quote that I think conceptionalizes how we should all feel about our book shelf, whether we read all the books on it or not it should not matter because the number of books read should have less value compared to unread book; "Read books are far less valuable than unread ones. The library should contain as much of what you don’t know as your financial means, mortgage rates and the currently tight real-estate market al...

Montreal Weekend Adventure

Image
So over the weekend I've decided to take a little trip over the border, and head to Montreal. I absolutely love Montreal and every time I go there I never want leave, the city is beautiful and far more cultural and artistic compared to Ottawa. it's definitely a place I'd like to live in for while once I am done my undergrad. I went only for a whole day, which was not enough to actually enjoy the city, but I managed to squeeze in some shopping, lunch and museum time, which was the main reason I went. Given my obsession with Russian culture and history couldn't make me miss the exhibition Fabulous  FabergĂ©.    “Its eggs are some of the greatest masterpieces ever created by FabergĂ©, who was, according to connoisseurs, the world’s most famous goldsmith. The museum’s major works include a small hardstone portrait of a sailor from the imperial yacht Zarnitsa, a very rare picture frame in the shape of a column with a portrait of Nicholas II and another in a star shape w...

WHAT ARE YOU UP TO THIS WEEKEND?

Image
Before we get to what I am up to this weekend let me start by saying that I’ve finally found a job! coffee barista at Bridgehead Coffee House. I am so happy not because I’ve finally found a job, but also because I hang out a lot in Bridgehead, and enjoy their serve, atmosphere and what it stands for so the idea of working there is not the worst thing that could ever happen to me. But also if you know, you know that I have this crazy obsession and addiction to cafĂ© or coffee houses. I can’t wait to start my first shift and have my life back to normalcy; with that being said I will keep you guys updated on everything e.g., how my shift went etc… So lets talk about what I am up to weekend, I’ve decided to take a personal day off today so all I have been doing today is things that I’ve been meaning to do such as Reading, having some meditation time, laundry, enjoying the sun and doing yoga. It has been a very successful day of body and mind cleansing. I am planning on continuing ...

It's Monday, but it's okay

Image
It’s Monday! But it’s okay. I don’t know about everyone, but I like Mondays; I know a lot of people hate it because that’s when work starts or its time to go back to school, and among others things. Monday should be renamed FUN DAY!!. Regardless of your opinion about Monday here are some things to start the week with, which I think will make your week or at least the transition from weekend to Monday smoothly. This video is probably one of my favourite music video right now, Sia is an amazing artist and this song and video personifies her amazing talent ability. Based on this song alone, O cannot wait for the album to come out.  This is a simple recipe that I think everyone and anyone can do; even a child. The best part about it is that it is completely vegan and it’s CHEAP!! Which is something I love. Also, it’s great for littler party or gathering; or especially on those days when you are not in the mood for making big lunch, or just lazy. It’s simple, ch...

Weekend Adventure: Permanent Sanskrit writting and sesame Noodle Salad

Image
It feels like its been years since I last blogged, but I am back! Every time I go on these hibernations period I feel like I have to come back with something amazing, e.g., I went to Paris or like Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray and Love traveled around the world and discovered something amazing about myself. But this is never the case, but I think this time is semi exciting even though I did not travel around the world I did get another tattoo! This is my second one and probably will be getting another one next year and hopefully if and when I do get accepted to Law school I might get another one. I get these tattoo as a rewards, which is logically makes no sense at all, but each one has a deeper meaning to it and to be honest getting these tattoo are the ONLY DANGEROUS thing I’ve ever done, and will probably do in my life time. With summer or correctly winter/spring here; if you live in Ottawa I am super excited about trying different recipes in the next four months during m...
